A man in Midwest City is claiming to be without air conditioning since May.

It is not a good time to be without air conditioning but that is the reality for a man in Midwest City.

"We went and bought two portable air conditioners and it’s still 85 degrees in this apartment," said Jeremy Johnson, who is without air conditioning.

Johnson let KOCO 5 into his apartment and sure enough, the thermostat showed the mid-80s on the screen.

"We contacted the management, and they said they would put us on a work order," Johnson said.

He claims, that since May, their air conditioning has been out and he’s tried to get property management to help. He took it upon himself to get portable units to ventilate his apartment.

"If you're not sitting right next to the portable air conditioner, you're sweating, and you can't do anything it’s just too hot," Johnson said.

KOCO 5 reached out to the management company that owns the apartment complex The Ridge, and they told us there were several factors with the AC units. The biggest issue is the heat wave, which stresses the machines but we were told it can also take them 6-8 weeks to get parts to fix the existing units.

"We've heard parts, new units they need, they got to buy all these new units, and they're just kind of giving us the runaround," Johnson said.

The management company also said lots of HVAC companies don’t do work on commercial apartment buildings because they get better businesses on homes and private residences.

Johnson said several maintenance people have come out to look at the unit but there are still no solutions.

"They said, they’re on the phone with the HVAC people and they said we'll have someone come look at it tomorrow, and the next day we'll install a new unit, never heard anything,” Johnson said.

KOCO 5 was told he can take his children to a family member's home if the heat is too unbearable but for now, he has to tough it out.
